It began over 20 years ago, when I first time saw a yurt. I was intrigued by the convergence and symmetry of the beautifully curved frame and crown.
Easy to move, yet sturdy and strong, it was new and exciting. Inspired, I began researching Yurts and was drawn in to a new world of canvas covered structures built by people who lived simple, nomadic lives. The Mongolians have been living and traveling with yurts for over a hundred years. |
Before we started making yurt for customers we decided to experience the lifestyle first hand while we built an alternative structure inspired by yurts as a home. As the dwelling came together we lived temporarily in a yurt.
My experience of living in a yurt was a fantastic experience; it was peaceful, it was simple and very calm. Collecting wood, carrying water and keeping cosy by the fire on the cold nights, my favourite part was watching the moon through the crown, THE EYE TO THE HEAVENS, as some would say. It took me back to that time as a child when you built dens with all the material and cushions you could find. Once built, our home lasted over 14 winters with a curved yurt like roof made from flexible hazel poles and vertical walls.
My Partner and I began making Yurts for people in 2005 as the yurt craze began, and at that time there were only 3/4 Yurt makers that where established, we were fully booked for months in advance. We focused on creating an ethical and eco product that will last, making the erection and creation of the yurt as simple and sturdy as possible.
The present:
We are a family run business with our children and friends getting involved over the years. We have now completed over 300 yurts. We supply campsites up and down the country, as well as to many individuals with homes, summer spaces, traveling stalls and/or class rooms for schools.
As well as building yurts for clients, we have a fleet of yurts for Glamping at events like Glastonbury Festival and Green Gathering, weddings, corporate events, parties, etc.
The future:
Our goal is to continue to provide the best, top quality yurts. We would like to support worthy organisations creating campsites that in-part, use Yurts to encourage people to experience more of the outdoor lifestyle and connect with nature.
